There are four versions in the series of the balloon tower defense 4 video games at present. There are also other versions of the balloon tower defense games added to an edition or games played in mobile platform and gadgets.

The first version of the balloon tower defense game series was introduced to the market in the later part of the year 2007. There were only six bloons in the first edition. These bloons are the red, the blue, the green, the yellow, the black, and the white bloons. The bloons have other smaller bloons inside them except for the red bloons, which have none. The black and white bloons have particular weaknesses of themselves.

Five towers are used to poped the bloons. These towers are the Dart Tower, the Tack Tower, the Ice Tower, the Bomb Tower, and the Super Monkey. Players are allowed to have 40 lives. The players are asked to reach 50 levels of difficulty are not present in the newer editions of the game. There are no choices for track in the later editions.

The other versions in the game series are the BTD 2, BTD 3 and BTD 4.
